On the afternoon of August 19, a call came in to Cheyenne County dispatch about a man in cardiac arrest. What followed was a textbook example of a rural community's emergency system working together.
Dispatchers calmly guided the family and sent help without delay. Volunteer firefighters arrived first and took over CPR, sheriff's deputies joined, and the EMS crew, with an off-duty paramedic who came in to help, worked to stabilize a patient who slipped in and out of cardiac arrest on the way to the hospital.
SRMC's Emergency Room team was ready on arrival, continuing resuscitation and coordinating the next level of care. Thanks to everyone in that chain, the patient survived.
